Zemtsov
won numerous prizes: first prize at the International
Youth Competition "Classical Legacy"
in Moscow in 1995, first prize at the Elise
Meyer competition in Hamburg in 1997, and
first prize at the 8th Brahms competition
in Poertschach, Austria, in 2001. Since the
age of 19 Alexander has worked with several
European orchestras. In September 2002 Alexander
was appointed Principal Viola with the London
Philharmonic Orchestra.
Alexander is member of The Hermitage Trio
and the Razumovsky Ensemble. He regularly
appears with both ensembles at the Wigmore
Hall and other venues and festivals throughout
the UK.
He was recently appointed Viola Professor
at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
